North American Höganäs offers about 30 different iron-based powders for component manufacturing. Each of our powders is developed to satisfy special needs and requirements for the component such as strength, hardness, tolerances, self-lubrication, and corrosion or wear resistance. We also produce customer-specific press-ready mixes based on our iron and steel powders, including additives that facilitate the component manufacturing process. The characteristics of some products are presented below and if you click on the link you will find our whole range of pure
iron and low-alloyed steel powders and their respective properties.

Sponge powders
These powders are produced from virgin material, which means a lower level of metallic impurities and thus greater consistency. The irregular shape results in high mechanical interlocking between particles after compaction, which make components easier to handle and gives high edge strength. Suitable for medium-strength components requiring finer tolerances.

  Diffusion alloyed powders
A family of low-alloyed steel powders, based on atomized or sponge iron with different levels of thermally-bonded elements such as Ni, Cu and Mo. Diffusion alloyed grades are synonymous with robustness and high-performance components.
  Starmix®
This special press-ready mix can be based on different iron powder grades. Organic bonding of additives gives the part manufacturer possibilities to increase the production rate and the sintered component shows tighter tolerances than a non-bonded material.
