About 80% of the global iron and steel powders are used for production of components. The powder manufacturing process involves shaping of a metal powder formulation by pressure and heat (sintering). Powder metallurgy allows complex component geometries with tailor-made strength and high tolerances to be produced in one single operation without subsequent machining resulting in low cost and low environmental impact.
Over 40 million sintered components are produced every day for use in numerous applications such as cars, trucks, power tools, white goods, air conditioners, computers, furniture, pumps and more translating into over 900,000 tons of metal powders use per year.
