Kyle Unger, process engineer

Proud to be making a difference to people’s lives

Many people long for a job where they can make a difference. Not just make a difference to the bottom line, but really make a positive contribution to society and improve the everyday lives of their fellow human beings.

Kyle Unger, Senior Process Engineer, Water Technology, at North American Höganäs, knows that his work has real meaning. And he takes deep personal satisfaction knowing that he is working on a solution to one of the most urgent challenges facing the world today – contaminated water.

Close to a billion people around the world lack access to safe drinking water, and trends like urbanization and population growth mean that the problem will only grow. A related problem is that 70% of industrial wastewater in developing countries is dumped into watercourses, creating further environmental and public health issues.

And it is exactly these very real, extremely serious issues, that affect the lives of hundreds of millions of people around the world, that Kyle is helping to tackle every day he goes to work developing Höganäs’ water treatment technologies.

Höganäs’s Cleanit® LC technology uses a specially designed medium capable of removing multiple contaminants from groundwater and drinking water, while Cleanit® EC electrodes remove heavy metals, radioactive isotopes and even pathogens from industrial wastewater.

The pride he takes in his work, and the satisfaction that he gets from it, push Kyle to go the extra mile. “We are often in the lab after work hours,” he says. “Sometimes we are so close to getting results we simply cannot wait until tomorrow.”
