Climate reduction targets in line with latest science

Höganäs has become the first company in the metal powder industry, to have its climate impact reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). It can now ensure its climate actions are in line with the latest science.

Höganäs SBTi approved

The goals validated by SBTi include Höganäs’ commitment to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 51% by 2030 from a 2018 base year.* Höganäs is also committed to reducing absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, upstream transportation and distribution, and business travel by 30% within the same timeframe.

On SBTi’s website you find a list of other companies who have also had their targets validated.

This validation is an important recognition that shows we are serious about making our contribution to limiting global warming to 1.5 °C. After our targets were submitted for validation in January 2022, we have accelerated our ambitions even more, to reach net-zero for scope 1 and 2 already in 2030, and throughout the value chain by 2037. While these ambitions were not included in the validation by SBTi, they are nevertheless what we strive for.

*The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.

Facts

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) enables businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050. The initiative is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and is one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments.
