Höganäs launches re-Astaloy 85 Mo as first product in new sustainability-focused portfolio
The 're-' prefix signals that a product meets specific sustainability criteria, aligned with four guiding principles: Net-zero emissions, Fit for circularity, Resource productive, and Safe and ethical. Inclusion requires verified improvement in at least one area, supported by credible documentation such as life cycle assessments (LCAs).
“At Höganäs, we are committed to driving positive change through material innovation that meets our customers’ evolving sustainability needs,” said Catharina Nordeman, VP Group Sustainability at Höganäs. “The re-portfolio helps customers more easily identify which of our products actively support their own sustainability goals.”
re-Astaloy 85 Mo, developed for powder metallurgy (PM) applications, builds on the proven performance of its predecessor, delivering the same high compressibility, uniform microstructure, and excellent hardenability. What sets it apart is a 14% reduction in Product Carbon Footprint, achieved by replacing natural gas with biogas in the production process.
“We see an increase in customer demand for solutions to reduce their Scope 3 carbon footprint. By integrating biogas into our production, we are supporting our customers in that ambition while also reducing emissions at source,” said Andreas Jähnke, Division President, Powder Metallurgy Technologies (PMT). “This is another strategic step toward decarbonising our production processes.”
The launch highlights Höganäs’ vision of driving positive change through material innovations that support customers in reducing Scope 3 emissions and improving environmental performance across their operations.
