Catalytic converters
A catalytic converter is a device used to reduce the toxicity of emissions from an internal combustion engine. A catalytic converter works by using a catalyst to stimulate a chemical reaction in which toxic by-products of combustion are converted to less-toxic substances. Catalytic converters are also used on generator sets, forklifts, mining equipment, trucks, buses, trains, airplanes and other machines using engines.
Technology
Traditional catalytic converters for cars use ceramics. Such converters are sensitive to vibrations and can not be used in for example motorcycles. Instead motorcycles use converters made from stainless steel or other metals that can better withstand vibrations. These converters are brazed during assembly and the high exhaust temperature requires a Ni-based braze alloy.
