The CTI Symposium and Transmission Expo, held on December 8-10, is the biggest transmission venue in the world. The event attracts participants from all of the major automobile and transmission manufacturers, as well as their suppliers from all over the world.

Höganäs exhibited as part of the Powder Metal Gearbox Initiative (PMGI), the unique PM industry collaboration to prove the concept, potential benefits and implementation readiness of Powder Metal gear technology in modern automotive transmissions.

– We made a lot of new connections into the automotive industry and the transmission engineering expert community, says Eckart Schneider, Director Global Development PM Components at Höganäs AB.

The final conference day was a test drive day at a track outside Berlin. Around 50 lucky conference delegates were awarded with great weather and 15 different vehicles ranging from Porsches to Opels. The consortium demonstrator vehicle was one of the cars available for test drive to demonstrate the performance of the Powder Metal gears.

– Everything went well, says Anders Flodin, PMC Höganäs. The drivers could not notice that there was any difference between a regular transmission and a PM geared transmission, which is what the Höganäs led PM gear consortium wanted to achieve.
