The completion of a new solar panel installation will provide significant reductions in carbon emissions and boost the plant’s efforts to become an eco-friendly factory.

New solar panels at Busan plant set to reap rewards

Electricity production from a new solar panel installation at Höganäs’ Busan plant in Korea will begin in March.  The solar panels were contracted in November 2020 as part of a national support project, with 80 per cent of the investment provided by the Korean energy agency and Busan city.

The project will result in a number of benefits, including an estimated energy saving of around 65,000 kWh per year, reduced carbon emissions via consistent use of solar energy, and an increased likelihood that the Busan plant will be officially classified as an eco-friendly factory. The project has also established a green energy system at the Busan site and is set to supply new and renewable energy facilities for mixing plants.

Seung Joo Kim, Busan plant manager, says: “We have created safe power generation through this solar panel installation to establish a green energy system within the Clean Energy Industrial Complex. In addition, the aim is to supply new and renewable energy facilities for mixing plants in order to use environmentally friendly clean energy with little carbon dioxide generation and less generation of environmental pollutants."
