Höganäs focuses on new motor technology development

Höganäs has changed its strategy for electric motors from in-house product development to a focus on supporting customers. With many years' experience of developing soft magnetic powders, Somaloy®, Höganäs will now help customers drive the development of new motor technologies.

Höganäs is in the forefront when it comes to developing electric motors using new technologies where a compact design combined with high torque and outstanding energy efficiency are key features.

Höganäs’ product line, Eclino®, was aimed at standardized electric drive systems for EPACs and other Light Electric Vehicles. With this new strategy Höganäs will discontinue Eclino®.

“With the new business focus, customers will benefit more from our key competence and experience than before,” says Hans Söderberg, Director Electric Drive Systems at Höganäs. “We will not compete with other drive systems manufacturers, but support them in developing new and more efficient solutions.”

Höganäs develops and produces soft magnetic composites (SMC) since many years. The materials are used for components with three-dimensional magnetic properties, perfectly suited for certain electric applications. Hans Söderberg has taken over the responsibility for the new business area.

“The combination of our vast material know-how and experience from drive systems development is a perfect match. In Höganäs customers will find a competent and reliable partner.”

By using Soft Magnetic Composites, Somaloy® powders, Höganäs has developed electric motors with a unique design combining high torque and efficiency with production friendly design and low material cost. The characteristics of these motors make them perfectly suited for Light Electric Vehicles. Höganäs has an agreement with Newcastle University in the UK for research of new motor technologies.
