Bimetallic barrels have a proven advantage over nitride barrels with better wear resistance, possible to combine both wear and corrosion resistance and the flexibility to choose different wear system based on polymer type.
The life of a barrel can double by changing from a nitrided steel to a standard bimetallic one. Coatings applied to the edges of the helix for various type of screws by PTA process (alternatively by laser cladding) provide superior wear protection.
