Ductile Components of Phosphorous-Alloyed P/M Steel

Phosphorus is an extensively used additive in ferrous Powder Metallurgy components for magnetic applications. Changes in powders and /or sintering processes, however, occasionally lead to intergranular cracking in parts made from phosphorus-containing materials. The goal is to understand this detrimental phenomenon and develop robust processes to ensure ductile components. The results of the studies from the conventional metallographic evaluation and Auger analysis are presented.
